Changes to the Comedy Cabaret

The offers to perform sexual favours to get a spot on The Comedy Cabaret continue to pour in, so I thought I better provide an update as to what is happening with the show.

Willingness to perform sexual favours to get ahead — the real reason men dominate in comedy, clearly.

Dave Letterman must be so tired, but I digress.

My co-producer Robin Crossman and I have transferred The Comedy Cabaret to our good friend Dave Code.

As per my first paragraph, Dave obviously did something very well. Thank you Dave.

Robin and I have been having a lot of great new opportunities coming at us. My book How to Start in Stand-Up Comedy: A Guide to Becoming a Comedian in Toronto is selling very well, and is currently available at Theatrebooks on Spadina, fyi. Robin is also doing great and is very busy with his cartooning career.

All these great opportunities made life just far too busy last year, and something needed to give. We were finding we were too busy to do The Comedy Cabaret justice, even though it continued to be a great show and frequently packed and getting press coverage too.

Even so, when we approached the Charlotte Room about ending the show, they really wanted to keep it as they really enjoyed being a part of what had been built over the past three years, so they asked us to find someone who could take on the show and do it really well. The Charlotte Room has been absolutely great to us over the past three years so we only wanted to provide a name if we thought the person would do continue to run it as a great show.

And the only name that came to mind was Dave, because we knew he would work as much as we had and put as much passion into continuing to make it a great show.

Many of you know that Dave has already been working hard to promote the show, and has brought in his friend Matthew as a co-producer.

Robin and I both fully encourage Dave, and will be going to at least the first few shows, if not more, to provide support.

In the meantime, go to The Comedy Cabaret website for more information and funny tweets, and buy my book on Amazon.com or Theatre Books downtown!

And remember, if you are a man who needs to provide sexual favours to get a spot, as apparently so many men do, you will now have to perform them for Dave, or Matthew.

I’ve noticed that none of the female comics ever offered sex in exchange for stage time. Clearly they don’t need to. (Okay, there was that one, but there’s always one).

Sirius Radio Promotion

Tomorrow I’m going to be in the studios of Sirius satellite radio to promote my new book How to Start in Stand-Up Comedy: A Guide to Becoming a Comedian in Toronto.

Many thanks to Ben Miner, host of Laugh Attack, for this great opportunity.

I have many other new and exciting things to post about. I’m going to try to get back on the horse and do several more posts this week to provide updates.

I did spend some time updating the new book site…(and holy jeeezzz, does it ever take a long time to load). Enjoy my pain and give it a look!

I’ll be keeping this site as more of a personal site for now while I shake out my web strategy, and decide how many websites I can possibly endure!
